Carnival Through the Eyes of a Child: The Youthful Experience of Mardi Gras in Mobile
Carnival is Mobile’s greatest living tradition. The single most important characteristic of Carnival in the Port City is that it is a family affair. Truly multigenerational in nature, Carnival, with Mardi Gras at its height, engages the hearts and minds of toddlers and grandparents alike. What binds all experiences of Mobile Carnival into one magical whole is that its is child-friendly. Carnival Through the Eyes of a Child: The Youthful Experience of Mardi Gras in Mobile celebrates many ways in which Mobile’s smallest of residents make the biggest of impacts during the Port City’s most beloved time of year.
The thirteenth exhibit in the Mobile Carnival Museum’s thematic series, Carnival Through the Eyes of a Child: The Youthful Experience of Mardi Gras in Mobile is the first exhibit dedicated to child and teenage engagement with Mardi Gras. Looking at both the royal and court sides of Carnival, the show examines fifteen traditions, organizations, roles, and activities through which Mobile’s youngest citizens partake in and contribute to the Port City’s most important annual celebration.
